Shot list

As a group we decided on all of the different shots that will be included in our teaser trailer. These shots are also clearly stated in our written script. All of the shots that are shown below, we will be using in our teaser trailer to create different effects as well as creating variety.

  • Wide Shot (WS)

Above shows an example of a Wide Shot. This gives the audience a clear view of everything in the shot, showing the entire person in the frame as well as including the background which gives the audience a clear indication of what the setting is.

  • Mid Shot (MS)

Above shows an example of a Mid Shot. This gives the audience a closer look of the person in the shot giving a more detailed view. This shot is taken from the waist upwards and gives the audience a closer view of the person as well as still including some of the background detail.

  • Close Up (CU)
The photograph above shows an example of a Close Up. This shot shows a certain feature or a part of the person that takes up the whole of the frame. A close up is usually a close shot of the persons face which helps to show more detail to the audience, for example it shows the persons emotions.

  • Medium Close Up (MCU)

A medium close up shown in the photograph above helps to show the persons face more clearly. The shot is a in between a mid shot and a close up. Still being able to show the audience emotions on the persons face but also still showing some of their clothing and the setting of the scene in the background.

  • Extreme Close Up (ECU)

An extreme close up shown in the image above is a shot that shows alot of detail to the audience. It shows a certain feature of the person face, for example the characters eyes as shown in the photograph above. Extreme close ups help to show alot of detail in the persons face as well as sometimes showing distinct emotions and is often used in dramatic scenes.
  • Cut-In

A Cut-in shows to the audience some part of the person in detail. The shot is similar to a cutaway and can be used to emphasise a certain emotion or movement to the audience, for example a hand shake.
  • Two-Shot

A two-shot is always used to show two people in one single frame. This shot shows to the audience both people that are in the scene in a comfortable and simple way. A two-shot can also be a mid shot, shot from the waist upwards. This shot is a good way to show both characters to the audience without getting distracted by the setting or speech from outside the frame.

  • Over-The-Shoulder Shot (OSS)

An over-the-shoulder shot, shown in the photograph above is shot from behind one person who is looking at the other shot. This shot is a good way of showing a conversation between two characters and is common to cut between these shots during the conversation showing it from both of the characters view. The shot can also gives the feel of looking at the other character from their point of view.

  • Setups
We will also be using setups when shooting our teaser trailer. This is when there is a shot in a scene that is used a lot. Shooting this shot for the whole scene allows for mistakes. This means that if any of our other insert cuts do not work out or appear to be over exposed etc. we can use out setups as a backup so that our entire scene still looks professional.

Location recce

We have decided on different locations to shoot our teaser trailer 'Obsession'. Below shows the locations that we have decided to use and pictures to show that we have been to visit these locations to make sure that they are suitable for the settings that we are trying to achieve.

  • Rhiannon's bedroom.
  • Stratford College corridor.
  • Room for hostage scenes - Rhiannon's shed.

This shot shows the setting that we will be using at the beginning of our teaser trailer. Above shows a photograph of Rhiannon's room, where Ava will be getting ready for school in. This shows that we have researched into the locations that we will be using for our trailer. Our group though that this would be a good setting for Ava's bedroom because it is a neat and tidy room which is color co-ordinated giving a professional and realistic look for a teenagers bedroom.

This shot is another shot in Rhiannon's bedroom, the room that we will be using as Ava's room in our teaser trailer. This is just another shot showing the mirror that we will be using when Ava is getting ready.

This shot shows the corridor that we will be using to shoot Ava walking aswell as her talking to her friend. This is on our college campus.

The shot abobe shows the room in which we will be placing the photographs of Ava in our teaser trailer. We will also be shooting the opening of a door here aswell as a flickering light. These will be for the hostage part of our trailer. These shots are taken of Rhiannon's shed. We thought that this was an appropriate setting because it appears old and run down which is what is usually seen for a hostage setting in films.

Above shows the location that we will be using for the most of our hostage scene. Our main character will be placed in one corner of this old barn. The barn is completly deserted so therefore we will not have to ask for permission to shoot in there which is ideal aswell as giving a good and appropriate effect to the look of our trailer.

Script for trailer

Together we created a written script on Celtx. This made our script look professional and has given us a clear and precise outline to our teaser trailer. Our script for our teaser trailer is shown below using print screens from Celtx.

Treatment

To create our treatment we came together as a group to talk about our own individual ideas about our production pieces. We then used ideas from each person in the group to decide on our final ideas for our work.

WORKING TITLE:
'Obsession'

SYNOPSIS:
Together we have created two different synopsis:

  • Detailed Synopsis:
Jenna is a deeply disturbed girl whose crazy obsession with the schools miss popular Ava Morgan, darkens and consumes her more and more every day. Jenna's only mission is to live the same, perfect life she believes Ava lives and she's willing to go to great lengths to get what she wants, even if that means hurting and destroying those who get in her way.

  • DVD cover synopsis:
An icon for some,
a dream for many,
an obsession for one.

Ava lives in a world of adoration. She's got the perfect friends, the perfect boyfriend, and the perfect life. But when a young girl's infatuation with the schools 'miss popular' takes a psychotic turn, only one question is left...
How far would you go to get the life you desire?

FORMAT:
For our horror magazine and poster, we will be authoring them in the format 'jpeg', after creating them on photo shop, as this makes it easier and more efficient to upload our productions onto our blogs. The technology that we will be using includes the Song HVR-A1E camcorder that we will need to film our trailer. For our magazine and poster we will be shooting our photographs with a Nikon D300 DSLR camera. We will also be using photo shop to edit and perfect the images that we will take for a flawless look and will also be using this to create the words and text for our poster and magazine. Our productions will be distributed through sites such as http://www.youtube.com/ and http://www.facebook.com/ as this ensures that numerous people will have the chance to view and comment on our trailer, magazine cover and poster.

ESTIMATED DURATION:
1 minute, 30 seconds.

We have chosen to create a teaser trailer that last roughly 1 minute, 30 seconds because when researching teaser trailers we found out that this is the usual length.

INTENDED AUDIENCE:
We are aiming for our target audience to be over the age of 15. This is because we don't think that the horror genre is suitable for anybody under this age. Also, from research that we have done, we have decided to direct our work slightly more towards males as this is the gender that we found to watch more horror films. We do not have a specific social class for our productions as we believe that anyone and everyone can be interested in the horror genre, regardless of status or class.

STYLE/GENRE:
The genre of the product is horror as this is the specific genre we chose to do out of the choices. The tone we are trying to create is a scared, uneasy tone as this is usually the basis of most horror films. Our horror trailer can’t give too much of the story away as it will make people not want to watch the film, but it needs to have a few scary bits to give the audience a taste of what’s to come. We will try and incorporate a few scary scenes into our trailer to show the audience what genre we are doing and to convey that scary/horrific feel that horror films usually.

RATIONALE:
This production is relevant to our target audience of people over the age of 15. This is because our target audience is slightly more directed towards males although it will still be targeting both males and females of the ages of 15 and over because we found from our research that this is the most common group that watch horror films. Therefore, our production will be relevant to our target audience because we have aimed for our products to appeal to this specific audience. We will be doing this by adding horror and other elements from the genre that signify that the film is not suitable for anybody aged under 15.

FEASIBILITY:
We will be using actresses that will be very flexible so that if we need to shoot a scene at last minute then they will be able to be used. This is why we were thinking about using people from our own group to be the main actresses. This makes it easier for us as a group because it means that we do not have to rely on other people. We will also be using locations that are easy to get to as well as trying to keep our budget price low.

BUDGET:
If obtain the money that we need to fund out production pieces, we could consider raising money in different ways. We could do this by doing this such as a fundraiser or get people to sponsor us to allow us to raise the amount of money that we need in order to complete our work. Another easier way to save money when making our work would be to instead of buying expensive equipment, we could borrow the things that we needed from the college when needed such as cameras and filming equipment. The actors which we decide to use in our trailer could also be asked to work for free so that we are constantly saving money as opposed to having to make money in order for us to be able to achieve good quality coursework.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
  • Sony Lumix FZ38 camera
  • Nikon D300 DSLR camera
  • Computer (iMac)
  • Editing software (final cut pro)
  • Photoshop

Outline of initial ideas

After completing our research we came together as a group to talk about our ideas for our own horror trailer thinking about all of the different aspects. Bellow shows the simple ideas that we came up with.

SCENES:
Our inspiration for our scenes for our horror teaser trailer came from films that we all looked at for our research as well as other trailers for films that we watched on www.youtube.com . For example 'Jennifers body' release in 2009 and 'Hostel' released in 2005.
  • Green band followed by paramount pictures.
  • Ava getting ready - putting on clothes and doing makeup in the mirror. Then shows Ava walking out of her house on the phone to a friend and getting into her car.
  • Ava is shown walking through a corridor showing that she is a happy girl which appears to have the perfect life.
  • Fades out to black and a short piece of writing introduces Jenna (Ava's stalker).
  • Classroom scene where Jenna is seen behind Ava (shadow) and then when Ava turns round Jenna has disappeared.
  • Ava is shown washing her hands in the toilets when a camera flash is shown through the window and the screen fades to white.
  • Ava is shown telling her friend: 'there is someone following me'.
  • Screen again fades to black and another single line of writing is shown to the audience.
  • Jenna is shown pinning a picture of Ava to a wall. The camera then zooms out and shows the wall full of pictures of just Ava.
  • Car park scene - Ava is shown walking towards her car in a car park she texts her mum telling her that she is on her way home and gets into the car. Ava looks into the mirror and Jenna is shown standing behind the car. Ava then begins to panic and tries to start her car but it wont turn on. Jenna then comes towards the car and goes to smash the window as Ava ducks and screams.
  • Fade to black and everything goes quiet.
  • Ava wakes up in a room which is full of pictures of herself, where she is being her hostage.
  • The door knob is shown to be turning as it begins to creek open.
  • Pace of the trailer becomes very fast and flashing images are shown on the screen of Ava being tortured by Jenna.
  • Long echoed screen from Ava as the screen turns black.
  • The title of the film then appears on the screen.
  • Final shots are then shown as Ava is crying and blood is dripping onto the floor.
  • Screen then fades into image 'Coming Soon'.
These are our initial ideas for our scenes for our horror teaser trailer however, some of these may change when we are shooting practice shots or for many other different reasons.

LOCATION:
We have come up with a few ides for some of our locations that we will be using for our trailer:
  • Bedroom
  • College corridor
  • Undecided room for torture part of trailer

ACTORS:
We have decided to use people in our group as the main actors in our teaser trailer. This makes it easier to shoot scenes at last minute etc. We will also be using a few different actors in our trailer for some very short scenes. So far these are the actors that we have decided on:
  • Ava - Rachael King
  • Jenna - Rhiannon Leek
We will also be using other actors for Avas friends in some scenes aswell as people that will generally be in the background of shots. However we are not sure who we are using for Avas friends yet.
