Selecting the poster

After looking at all of our mock ups we have talked about our thoughts and decided on the final look of our film poster. We have decided to use ideas from all of our mock ups and decided on what we want our final product to look like. We will be making our own credits placed at the bottom of the page with the title of our film 'Obsession' above. We will also have the tagline 'love you to DEATH' in the centre at the top of our poster. The entire background will  be filled with one image. This image will be of Rachael our main character Avas wrists tied together with rope using fake blood dripped over her wrists and hands.

We will be making our fake blood using golden syrup and food poisoning. We have tried making this blood before shooting our photograph in the photography studio so we already know that it looks effective and realistic for our target audience to focus on.

Poster mock up

Each member of our group has created their own mock up for our film poster. This is so that we can compare all of our ideas and decide what we want our final product to look like. Bellow shows the mock up that i created.

My mock up that i have created for our poster is shown above. I would like the poster to have a tag line at the top in the centre and the title of the film in the centre towards the bottom. I would also like their to be credits and then the release date of the film at the bottom of the poster. I couldn't draw what i had in mind for the main image but i would like the entire background to be one main image of our main character Jenna tied up to a chair. This will be showing to the viewers that the film will be a scary film so that they know the genre straight away.

I am now going to be looking at the mock ups that my other two members of my group have created so that we can put our ideas together and decide what we would like our final poster to look like before beginning to shoot photographs for it and finally making it.

Film poster conventions

Here i have looked at various horror films and looks at the conventions shown on their posters.

After looking at many different horror film posters and then looking directly at the conventions of these three i have a clear idea of what i would like the poster for our film to look like. This poster will be including the title of the film, the release date, one main image, credits and a colour scheme that has yet to be decided. From these ideas i decided to make a mock up of what i would like the poster to look like and this is shown on the following post.

Venue release form - Email to the council

For one of the scenes in our horror teaser trailer we are shooting in Monks path Hall car park. To shoot in this car park we have to have permission from the Solihull council. To get this permission we have emailed the council, bellow is a copy of the email we sent.

  • If the above print screen is too small to read this is what was written in our email to the Solihull council:

Dear Sir/Madam

My name is Katie Hall, I am an A level student attending Stratford Upon Avon College.
I am currently completing coursework for Media where i am creating a horror teaser trailer with two other students.
I am emailing you to ask for permission to shoot a short scene at night time in the Monks path Hall car park.
We will be filming away from any cars that may still be in the car park at the time of filming and will be using proper light reflecting gear so that we are safe from any moving traffic.

Yours sincerely,

Katie Hall

  • Bellow shows the first email that we received back:

Good afternoon,

Thank you for contacting us.

I have forwarded your email to our Communications Division who will respond to your enquiry at their earliest convenience.

If you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards,

Kelly

  • Bellow shows the final email that we received back from the council. This gave us permission to shoot in the car park that we wanted to.

  • If the above print screen is too small to read this is what was written in our email to the Solihull council:

Hi Katie, I've checked with our colleagues in parking and there is no reason not to allow you to film in and around the car park, but please keep yourselves safe during the dark evenings.

Best wishes,

Tina

Costume Sketches

I have decided to draw up some sketches of some of the outfits that we will be using for our main character Ava. This shows more detail in the outfits that she will be wearing showing a clear image before beginning to shoot. Bellow show these sketches.

Shooting schedule

Bellow shows a schedule that we have created as a group. It states the exact dates and times that we will be shooting each of our scenes for our horror teaser trailer. This will help us to reach our deadline with lots of time to edit our trailer.

As we are using these dates to shoot our scenes we will be adding more dates if we did not have the time to finish shooting some of our scene or if some of the scenes did not turn out how we imagined them eg. over exposed shots, failed sounds recording or not thinking about mise on scene.

1. Tuesday 22nd November, 12.30pm - 2.30pm:
The first scene that we will be shooting will be our second selection of scenes. These scenes are filmed on the college premises. We will be shooting these scenes first because we can do this during college hours when the whole of our group will be available. In this time period we will be shooting Ava walking through her school corridor and the scene in the toilets.

2. Monday 5th December, 11.15pm - 12.45pm:
In this time period we will be reshooting one small shot where Ava is talking to her friend. This is because when we shot this the first time we realised that Ava needed to be in a different outfit to shot that it is on a different day in the film this creates continuity in our teaser trailer.

3. Wednesday 14th December, 12.30 - 2.30pm:
The next scene that we will be shooting will be another scene shot on the college premises. In this time period we will be shooting the classroom scene.

4. Friday 13th January, 1.30pm - 4.00pm:
The second scenes that we will be shooting will be our first scene. This scene is filmed at Rhiannon's house. This will include the first shots when Ava is getting ready for school and Ava walking out of her house and getting into her car.
5. Tuesday 17th January, 7.30pm - 9.00pm:
In this time period we will be shooting the car park scene. This scene needs to be shot in the dark with street lamps so this time will be an appropriate time to shoot at.
5. Thursday 19th January, 6.00pm - 8.00pm:
On this day we will be shooting the scenes in the hostage room. This will include Jenna pinning up a picture of Ava onto the wall and all of the scenes where Ava is being kept as a hostage.
